About Of My Sojourn
“Nobody tells you when you get born here / How much you’ll come to love it and how you’ll never belong here.”
— Rich Mullins, “Land of My Sojourn”
This Substack is a field journal. A trail map. A series of dispatches written from the tension between two worlds—one we walk in, and One we wait for.
My name’s Josh. I’m Jen’s husband. I’m also a pastor, writer, and wanderer-by-faith living in Ohio. I serve as a pastor at Pataskala Grace Church in Pataskala, and I’m planting Newark Grace Church just up the road—because I believe the gospel still changes everything, and every town deserves to hear it with fresh ears.
I’ve spent the last few years preaching Christ in the local church, walking with hurting people, and trying to figure out what it means to be both present in this world and anchored in the next.
But that’s just part of the journey.
I’ve walked a lot of roads. I’ve been a journalist chasing stories. I’ve managed bands and booked shows in backrooms and basements. I’ve spent late nights saddled up at bars, listening to strangers search for meaning between sips and silence. And I’ve sat in my office across from weary saints—disciples limping through the long obedience, still clinging to grace.
I named this space Of My Sojourn because I’m still learning how to live like a citizen of heaven while carrying an Ohio driver’s license. I wanted a place to write honestly about the beauty and brutality of walking with Jesus through real life—through grief and joy, sermons and silence, cracked phone screens and communion tables.
I’m a ragamuffin with a Shepherd. A sojourner with a Savior. If you’ve ever felt homesick for a place you’ve never been, I think we’ll get along just fine.
